Fourth semester

The fourth semester is devoted to the Master Thesis, valued for 30 ECTS credits. Each student will be jointly supervised by two advisors from two different institutions (the principal advisor from the hosting institution). The research topic can be supervised and located in the R&D department of an industrial, and in particular those who are members of the EUROP (The European Robotics Platform). The research work is finalised by a written dissertation, the Masters Thesis, which must be done individually and contain an element of original work. The dissertation is defended in front of a committee of experts. The composition of the committee and the conditions of the oral presentation are communicated to the student at the beginning of the the S3.
The dissertation should demonstrate:
  • A comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to the chosen topic of research,
  • Originality in the application of Robotics knowledge,
  • The ability of the student to critically evaluate current research in the field of robotics and, where appropriate, to propose new hypotheses and solutions.

Fourth semester at Asian partners

The fourth semester can be carried out at one of the Asian partner institutions (KEIO, SJTU). Students interested by a mobility to an Asian partner institution are required to apply and express their motivations at the end of the first semester.
The management committee of emaro makes a decision regarding these mobilities after the end of the second semester, in July. The decision is based on the results of the students during the first year and on a balanced distribution of students in the different institutions.
The defence of the thesis takes place twice: in the Asian institution in the European institution of the third semester.

Fourth semester at Industrial partners

The fourth semester can be carried out at one of the Industrial partners (IRT Jules Verne, BA Systemes, SIIT, Robotnik).  Students interested by a mobility to an industrial partner are required to apply and express their motivations at the end of the first semester. The local EMARO+ JMD institution will inform the students about the procedure. The local management committee makes the final decision after the end of the second semester, in July. The decision is based on the results of the students and the selection done by the industrial partner.

The defence of the thesis takes place at the European institution of the third semester.
